Container Loading Calculator for Tricycles & Motorcycles

Container Loading Calculator for Tricycles & Motorcycles

How many units fit in one container is one of the first questions every importer asks — it decides freight per unit, your stock planning and your cash flow. This calculator gives an indicative loading range from public container dimensions and typical vehicle dimensions, for the three common packing formats: CBU (built unit), SKD (semi-knocked down) and CKD (knocked down kit).

Estimates use published container internal volumes (20ft ≈ 33.2 m³, 40ft ≈ 67.7 m³, 40ft HC ≈ 76.4 m³) and typical loaded vehicle volumes per class and packing format. Real loading depends on exact model dimensions, body type, canopy, packaging, mixed loads and the final loading plan — confirm quantities on the proforma invoice before you order.

Why the packing format changes everything

SKD and CKD cut the space each vehicle occupies because the body, chassis and drivetrain ship as separate units or kits. That lowers freight per unit and, in many markets, the import duty as well — but it adds assembly work at destination. CBU ships ready to run and takes the most volume per unit. The right choice depends on your duty rates, your workshop and how fast you need stock on the road.

Format Space per unit Duty impact Needs at destination
CBU Highest Highest finished-vehicle rate Nothing — drive it off
SKD Medium Usually lower than CBU Workshop for final assembly
CKD Lowest Often the lowest rate Space, tools and trained fitters

How to use the result

  1. Plan your first order — use the range to size a trial container before you commit to a full fleet.
  2. Compare suppliers — ask each supplier for their loading plan for the same model; a denser plan means lower freight per unit.
  3. Budget landed cost — combine this number with our landed cost calculator to see the full picture before you negotiate.

Frequently asked questions

How many cargo tricycles fit in a 40ft container?

Fully built cargo tricycles typically load in the low tens per 40ft container depending on size and body type, while SKD and CKD kits increase the count substantially because the vehicles pack more densely. Use the calculator above for an indicative range, then confirm the exact figure on the proforma invoice.

Is it cheaper to ship CBU or CKD?

CKD usually lowers both freight per unit and import duty, but only if you can assemble at destination. Compare the three landed-cost lines — factory price, freight and duty — for your own market before deciding; our CBU/SKD/CKD guide walks through the maths.

Can I mix different models in one container?

Yes, mixed loads are common — for example cargo trikes plus spare parts. Send your model list and we build the loading plan for the container you choose.

Do you provide a loading plan with the quote?

Yes. Tell us the models, quantities and container type and the loading plan is confirmed with your proforma invoice.
