CBU: fully assembled, fastest to sell

CBU (Completely Built-Up) units arrive ready to ride. There is no local assembly, which makes CBU the right choice for sample orders of 1–5 units, urgent government tenders or showroom display models. The trade-off is freight: a 40ft container typically holds only around 8–12 assembled cargo tricycles, so the shipping cost per unit is highest in this format.

SKD: the balance most distributors choose

With SKD (Semi-Knocked-Down), the factory pre-assembles the chassis, engine and drivetrain, then packs wheels, cargo box, seats and canopy separately. Because disassembly is minimal, a 40ft container can hold roughly 25–35 units — often more than double a CBU load. Final assembly takes a local mechanic only a few hours with basic hand tools, no welding required. For most B2B buyers in Africa and Latin America, SKD delivers the best mix of low landed cost and simple setup.

CKD: maximum savings for serious volume

CKD (Completely Knocked-Down) ships the vehicle as individual components. Container utilization can reach 40+ units per 40ft high-cube, cutting per-unit freight dramatically. More importantly, many countries tax vehicle parts at a lower rate than fully built vehicles — Kenya, Nigeria and Ethiopia all offer meaningful CKD duty advantages under their national automotive policies. The requirement: you need an assembly line, trained staff and quality control. CKD suits established importers planning local production, not first-time buyers.
