Where electric wins
Electric cargo trikes shine in predictable daily routes: market-to-home deliveries, campus logistics, waste collection and short urban loops. Energy cost per kilometer drops dramatically versus gasoline, maintenance involves fewer moving parts, and many governments now offer EV import incentives — Rwanda applies 0% duty on EV imports, and several other countries grant partial exemptions. The constraints: charging access, battery replacement planning, and route discipline. If drivers cannot charge mid-day, range anxiety becomes a real operational limit.
Where gasoline still dominates
Gasoline tricycles remain the default in markets with unreliable grid power, long unpaved routes, or heavy daily payloads beyond typical EV capacity. Refueling takes minutes anywhere, water-cooled engines handle sustained hills and heat, and the resale market for used gasoline units is deeper in most African and Latin American countries.
The hybrid fleet strategy
Many of our distributor clients now stock both: electric units for urban short-loop customers, gasoline units for rural and heavy-load buyers. This hedges fuel-price swings and captures both customer segments with one supplier relationship.
